While still a student at Clark, Rebecca co-founded her financial services company, LearnLux, to help her contemporaries make sound financial decisions for their future. Today the CEO and her team have guided thousands of individuals, and partnered with employers, to make financial security a priority in their home and workplace.

Ron Shaich, founder and CEO of Panera
Panera is ranked among Fortune’s “World’s Most Admired Companies.” In 2010, Shaich spearheaded the Panera Cares initiative, which created nonprofit community cafes to ensure that anyone can get a meal in a dignified dining environment and to raise awareness about food insecurity.

If you’ve ever enjoyed an amazing sandwich at Panera Bread you can thank Ron Shaich, who revolutionized the concept of casual dining when he founded the popular bakery-café. Ron got his start in business by opening a general store on campus while still a Clark student. He recently wrote the bestselling book “Know What Matters,” which offers strategies for transforming your life.

Majors: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; History

At Clark, Katie investigated the how the descendants of Holocaust survivors may have inherited factors that increase the risk of heart disease. Now she’s a research assistant at UMass Chan Medical School.

Katie Healey ’24 put her psychology degree to work right after graduation as a dialectical behavioral therapy case worker helping young adults dealing with serious mental health concerns.
In addition to serving as a Wellness Ambassador, Katie researched cases and testified on a range of scientific matters for Clark’s Mock Trial team, winning awards at several tournaments.

Major: English

Photojournalist Spencer Platt started as a Worcester street photographer while a student at Clark.

Since then, he has witnessed history, capturing memorable images in war zones across the globe; in New York during the Sept. 11 attack; and on the steps of the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 riot. His compelling photos have earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the Pulitzer Prize.

Margaret Guzman ’89

After many years as a public defender and as a District Court Judge serving the people of Massachusetts, Margaret Guzman was sworn in as a United States District Court Judge in 2023. She is the first person of Hispanic heritage to serve as a federal judge in Massachusetts. “I’m going to be fair, and I’m going to bring a different voice,” she said.

At Clark, Quincy balanced his studies with lacrosse practices and fly fishing in local waterways.

Environmental leadership

Ecologist Quincy Milton III ’20, M.S. ’21 earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology at Clark. Today, he works for an environmental engineering firm in Rhode Island, using GIS technology and other research methods to solve challenges at the fragile intersection between nature and industry.

Anthony works as a geospatial analyst for Environmental Defense Fund and team member for MethaneSAT, which recently launched the world’s first independent NGO satellite. The satellite will soon be able to measure methane on roughly 80% of the planet.

Linnea Menin ’19 helped collect and process samples from kettle ponds on Cape Cod to determine the ponds’ health.
Funded by the University’s Steinbrecher Fellowship and Summer Scholars Program, Linnea works with Assistant Professor Nathan Ahlgren and doctoral candidate Emily Dart on a study of the microbial communities found local water systems.

At Clark, Linnea helped collect and process samples from Walden to Cape Cod to determine the ponds’ health. Now she is a research associate in applications development for Covaris.

Technology

Advance what is possible

Stanley Pierre Louis ’92, President and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, the trade association of the IU.S. video game industry.
As pursued his degree in history, Stanley took advantage of all Clark had to offer: becoming vice president of the Fiat Lux Society, earning membership in Phi Beta Kappa, joining a band, playing double bass in the Clark Chamber Orchestra, and managing the orchestra. He also completed an internship in Washington, D.C., and spent his junior year at the London School of Economics.

As president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, the trade association of the U.S. video game industry, Stanley Pierre-Louis ’92 touts the cultural impact and career opportunities in top-level game design.

Pierre-Louis, who traces his own interest in video games to Pong and other early Atari offerings, noted that today’s games are painstakingly researched, drawing on history, archaeology, and other scholarly disciplines to inform their narratives and visuals. The result is a steady supply of games of elevated sophistication and widening appeal.

On a recent return visit to campus, he delivered a clear message to Clark students: “They are always hiring in our industry.”

Nina, now a junior software engineer at Microsoft, believes in the importance of keeping female-identifying people active in this industry and lifting them up.

At Clark, Nina served as president of the Clark Competitive Computing Club, which seeks to expand the diversity of students involved in the STEM fields. She secured a Microsoft Explorer internship before getting a full-time offer from the software giant.
